In a very close finish, USPS Masters just managed to beat Gregg's
Specialized to the finish line in a time of 49.945 seconds to claim
the Gold medal. Gregg's specialized crossed the line in 49.975 seconds
to take the
Silver
medal. The Bronze medal was won by Team Last Chance when they crossed
the line in 50.811 seconds. |

Graham Webb, also from Great Britain claimed the Silver medal with
16 points. The Bronze medal was won by Leonard Jones of Great Britain

The 65-69 Pursuit was won
by Brian Dacey of Great Britain when he crossed the line in 2.38.999
minutes. The Silver medal was claimed
by Roland Crayford of Great Britain with a time of 2.43.241 minutes.
The Bronze medal was won by Victor Possee, also from Great Britain
when he finished with a time of 2.44.189 minutes.

Keith Harrison of the USA completed a successful week for this first
ever 70+ category of events when he added another Gold to his Points
win and his Silver in Day one in the 500m Time Trial. Riding against
the man who beat him in that event, Ron Truman, Harrison set a
new World Best Time of 2.44.905, to Trumans 2.46.777. Delroy Walters
of the USA won the Bronze against Britains Ray Groves.

Masters novice Katrina Hair from Great Britain beat France's fellow
first-timer Isabelle Ngugyen Tu to the Gold, setting a new World
Best time in the process. Hair shattered the old record as she
took 2.4 seconds from the 2001 mark of Melanie Szubrycht. Another
Masters debutanté Annerine Wenhold of the RSA beat Manchesters
adopted Dutch Carine Van Schie to the Bronze by a margin of .66
secs

Law-Viljoen hit the form she had been looking for all week when she
secured victory in the Pursuit after 2 Bronze medals earlier in
the week. Riding against Australia's Tabatha Cole, the South African
came back from an early deficet to take the win by .357 with a
time of 2.42.94.

American Annette Hanson returned to the Masters after
a year off to round her week off with another Gold to add to her
successes
in the Time Trial and Points when she outclassed Great Britains
Emily Forde in the Pursuit final, almost catching her opponent
just before the line. Carol Scott took the Bronze with the narrowest
of margins, .078 secs against the German Petra Kluender.

Marsha Macro of the USA
rounded off a week when she set a new World Best time for her age
group in the Pursuit when she beat last years Silver medalist who
again ended in the runners-up position when she took Gold in the
final. Macro had set the new mark in the mornings qualifier. Evelyn
Kenyon came out best in the ride-off for the Bronze medal against
Australias Joan Coates.

Woody Cox of the USA won the third edition of the Alan Geldard
Trophy, the 5 Mile Scratch event for selected over 50's in
10.24 mins. The American, another missing from the event in
recent years and with
a full
set of 2
Bronze, 1 Silver and 1 Gold already, led out with just over 2
laps to go and set such a pace that the rest of the field were
left
scramblling to get his wheel. Musselbrough's Andy Lang managed
to follow Cox across the line for second with Canadian Chris
Anstey third.
2003 winner Steve Davies finished 7th, while sole Woman rider
Anette Hanson who had earlier triumphed in the Pursuit final
finished
12th.

Curtis Gunn of the U.S.A added his
name to the illustrious list of winners of this famous trophy when
he won the 2004 edition in a time of 19.52.157 minutes. Gunn
set out on a lone attack with 12 of the 64.75 laps of the Manchester
track remaining to solo across the line for the win in the prestigious
Muratti Cup. Defending Champion Brian Taylor could only manage third
place behind Italy's Roberto Mattei. Fellow American Kenny Williams
was once again frustrated in his attempt to win the event which for
the last four years has rounded of the weeks competition, finishing
fifth, a place behind fellow Brit Tim Lawson.
